Remember to VOTE NO on Constitution Convention Proposition (on the back of ballot).

New York State Assembly was called back in session and the following Bills benefiting UFA members were able to be passed:

  • Omnibus Bill - including: NYS Bills S-6550 & A-8115
"Amend the General Municipal Law to allow certain uniformed members of public retirement systems who are subject to the provisions of Article 14 of the Retirement and Social Security Law to be eligible to file for an accidental disability benefit regardless of whether he or she is eligible for a normal service retirement benefit. The bill would also allow retirees who are receiving an accidental disability pension to continue to do so despite being disapproved from receiving a federal social security disability pension." This clears up previous language under SSL Section 507 in regards to FDNY, NYPD, Corrections and Sanitation Tier 3/6 Accidental Disability Pensions and removes the Post Retirement Employment restrictions.

  • LOD Widows COLA - S4588 (Golden) A06286A (Joyner)
"This legislation extends the escalation of a cost of living increase of approximately 3% for all line-of-duty widows or widowers for fiscal year 2017-18."

The UFA would like to thank Senator Marty Golden and Assemblyman Peter Abbate for working on the creation and passing of these Bills. We also want to extend our thanks to Senator Flanagan and Assemblyman Heastie for all of their work on The Omnibus Bill and making sure our Bills were included. The UFA thanks Governor Cuomo for calling the Assembly back into session, and signing the Bill.
